He had a room full of breeders laughing one minute and dead silent the next. Here's why we wanted Dr Xavier Schneider at BreedaCon 2027 and why Repro Vet now our Preferred Semen Management Partner, not just a keynote.

Some of you have already met Dr Xavier Schneider. He presented at the Australian Dog Breeders Conference in 2025 - a separate event to BreedaCon where our team first watched him put a room of breeders through a solid, technical reproduction session that had them cracking up one minute and leaning forward, dead serious, the next.

He's also presented at the much loved Activity Dogs - Dog Lovers Cruise, doing exactly the same thing to a completely different crowd - Some of the BreedaCon team were there and if there's one thing we can say, it's that he isn't afraid to challenge the status quo!

Based on our own experience with him, we knew exactly who we wanted at BreedaCon 2027.

What I didn't expect was that he'd say yes to more than a session.

By the end of this post you'll know exactly who Dr Xavier Schneider is, why we wanted him at BreedaCon 2027, and what his session and his practice mean for your own breeding program.

Refill your water bowl, grab a cuppa and stick with me to read the full story.

Why Dr Xavier Schneider Matters to BreedaCon 2027

Reproduction is the part of breeding almost nobody feels confident about. Nutrition, socialisation, temperament testing ..there's a growing library of breeder education on all of it.

Ask most breeders about conception rates, sperm quality, or when a genuinely complicated mating needs a specialist rather than a guess, and the room goes quiet fast. Most of what breeders know about reproduction still comes from other breeders, forums, and whatever the last vet they saw happened to mention in passing.

That's exactly the gap Dr Xavier works in every day, and exactly why he matters to this conference specifically. He's a registered specialist, not a generalist with an opinion (although he has plenty of them too!) , and he's spent his career in the unglamorous, high-stakes end of breeding - the end where a wrong call costs a litter, or a program's entire genetic line.

Putting that expertise in front of Australian breeders, in plain language, with zero pretence, is exactly the kind of thing BreedaCon was built to do.

Meet Dr Xavier Schneider: ReproVet - SireStore and the Keynote That Changed the Room

The vet behind the practice

Dr Xavier Schneider is a registered specialist in animal reproduction at Queensland Veterinary Specialists and a Diplomate of the American College of Theriogenologists - the international credential for reproduction specialists.

He's also a lecturer with the Faculty of Science at the University of Queensland, where he trained, before cutting his teeth in mixed practice across northern Australia and then specialising into equine, bovine and canine reproduction. He's published research on the stuff that actually decides outcomes at the pointy end of a breeding program - conception rates in frozen-thawed surgical AI, the effect of age, parity and sperm concentration on a successful mating, and complications like dystocia and singleton litters. It's the unsexy science that separates breeders who get lucky from breeders who get it right on purpose.

From clinic to conference stage

None of that explains why he's such a good time on stage, which is a separate skill entirely and one he clearly wasn't taught in vet school. His 2025 keynote covered genuinely technical, occasionally confronting reproductive science, and somehow still had the room laughing within the first five minutes. He doesn't dumb it down and he doesn't dodge the awkward questions - he just talks to breeders like adults who can handle the real answer, which turns out to be exactly what a room full of breeders wants from a reproductive vet.

The breeders who wouldn't let it go

Full credit where it's due: this partnership almost didn't need us to make the case at all, because Harley & Co Cavoodles beat us to it.

We only know these guys through the breeder circuit and previous events, long before BreedaCon existed, but once they got wind that Dr Xavier might be part of the 2027 program, they pushed, and kept pushing, for us to lock him in - not for a token appearance, but for genuinely deep-dive sessions that would actually be worth a professional breeder's time. They cared enough about it to schedule calls between BreedaCon and Dr Xavier themselves, just to make sure this partnership actually happened. That's the kind of breeder-led energy this conference was built on, and Harley & Co Cavoodles earned a proper thank you for it.

Why he wanted in

Dr Xavier has seen what we're building at BreedaCon, and he didn't just want a speaking slot... he wanted in. He gets that this conference is trying to move the needle on the future of ethical breeding in Australia, and he wants to help build that, not just present at it from the sidelines. That's exactly the kind of partner we want standing next to us and we're pumped to have Repro Vet partner with BreedaCon 2027!

More than a keynote

Which brings us to the actual news: ReproVet, Dr Xavier's Brisbane-based reproduction practice, is coming on board as BreedaCon 2027's Preferred Semen Management Partner. ReproVet is home to SireStore, their semen cryopreservation and storage service, built to protect valuable genetic material for the long haul. For serious breeding programs, that's not a nice-to-have - it's the infrastructure a genetic line's future can quietly depend on, and we're glad to have it, and him, properly in the BreedaCon corner.

What This Partnership Means for Your Breeding Program

Dr Xavier Schneider will headline a premium, intricate .. and very interesting Saturday session on reproduction at BreedaCon 2027, aimed squarely at professional breeders who want the real answers, not the sanitised version. Expect depth. Expect him to wade into the questions breeders argue about in group chats at 11pm without dodging a single one. And expect at least one moment where he's got a mic in one hand, something cold in the other, and the whole room laughing before he pivots straight back into science that'll change how you think about your next mating. That's just how we roll at BreedaCon - premium content, zero pretence.

BreedaCon 2027 runs 30 April to 2 May 2027 at Mantra on View, Surfers Paradise.

We'll be sharing more on the ReproVet and SireStore partnership as Saturday's program comes together, so keep an eye on the blog for that. And don't forget to reach out if you've got questions about Dr Schneider's session, what to expect, or how to make the most of BreedaCon 2027!
